Hope For Haiti Now telethon – Joel Gallen, George Clooney, Robert DeNiro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson

Tenth Planet is a Los Angeles based production company founded by director/producer Joel Gallen. After several years as head of production of MTV, Gallen launched Tenth Planet in 1994. Tenth Planet’s highly-acclaimed work includes 21 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies, 16 MTV Movie Awards, 14 Comedy Central Roasts, 8 Independent Spirit Awards, 6 iHeart Radio Music Awards, and 5 MTV Video Music Awards. Joel has also produced and directed several award-winning multi-network shows put together in mere days after tragic events to help people in need. Shows like the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning America: A Tribute to Heroes – 10 days after 9/11; Shelter From the Storm – a benefit for Katrina survivors in September of 2005; Hope for Haiti – immediately after the Haiti Earthquake in 2010; and The iHeart Living Room Concert for America – the first fund-raising music event after the Pandemic closed down the country in March of 2020. Gallen also produced and directed CNN Heroes 5 times, and Stand Up 2 Cancer for ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX 2 times. In 2009, Gallen produced and directed the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert for HBO that won 4 Emmys and featured performances from Mick Jagger, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Ozzy Osbourne, Simon and Garfunkel, and many more. In 2014, he produced and directed the 4-hour live broadcast of The Concert for Valor for HBO featuring Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Rihanna, Dave Grohl, Carrie Underwood, Metallica, and others. Joel has also been active in the series business, executive producing 7 seasons of America’s Best Dance Crew for MTV, 3 seasons of The Sing-Off for NBC, and 2 seasons of both Roast Battle and Comedy Jam for Comedy Central. Gallen directed and produced Chris Rock’s “Never Scared” Special for HBO and Pete Davidson’s “SMD” Special for Comedy Central. He also directed and produced several Ellen DeGeneres comedy specials, including her latest “Relatable” in 2019 for Netflix. Joel also executive produced the film Zoolander for Paramount and directed the cult comedy classic Not Another Teen Movie for Sony.  

Joel directed and produced several monumental live events over the last year and a half: The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert at Wembley in September of 2022; The 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in November of 2022; Chris Rock: Selective Outrage – the history-making first ever live-stream on Netflix in March of 2023. Those shows received 5 Emmy nominations between them including directing for Chris Rock: Selective Outrage. Gallen also directed and produced a Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys for CBS in February of 2023.

In November of 2023, Gallen produced and directed the first ever live broadcast of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for Disney+ and ABC. The program is currently streaming on Hulu.
